The Otter Creek Church of Christ Is A Christ-Led, Spirit-Powered, Grace-Motivated Family Of Believers.

God is Changing the World Through Us as We Become Christ’s Presence in This Place

Please Consider Our Mission As You Approach The Blueprint Project With Us.

We have included a series of questions and answers about the Blueprint project and what it means to the Otter Creek family. Please take a few minutes to read it. All of us need to be not only spiritually prepared but also well informed as we make our own decision about responding.

What Is Our Commitment To The Kindergarten?

What Is Blueprint?
Blueprint is the name of a new fund-raising project with the purpose of building an addition to our current facility at 409 Franklin Road.

Why Are We Adding Onto Our Building?
We are blessed with a growing church. Initially, this facility
mainly will support the growth of our children’s ministry, but when the second and third floors are built out, two-thirds of the building will provide much needed support for adult and youth programs. The new building will be the primary location for the Otter Creek Kindergarten, which is currently still meeting at our old Granny White property.

Do We Need This Building & How Will It Be Used?
Since our move to our current facility in 2006, our membership has grown 34%, and the number of children and youth on our rolls has grown 51%. We immediately need one additional nursery, three additional children’s classrooms, and four additional youth classrooms. We also need to move the Otter Creek Kindergarten, a key ministry of our church, to our current site so our family is together on one campus and so we will be able to sell our old building more easily. In addition, our current lack of handicap access needs to be addressed. The new building will have a much-needed elevator that will provide access to all three floors of our entire facility.

How Much Will This Building Cost?
The price tag on this project is $5 million. The kindergarten is working to raise half of the money through the Lighting the Path campaign. Otter Creek Church is working to raise the balance of the money through Blueprint. Five million dollars will cover the cost of the construction, site work and paving an additional parking area. It will also cover the cost to finish out and furnish the first floor of the new building, which will immediately provide 9 classrooms for the kindergarten and for the church.

When Will Financial Commitments Be Received & For What Time Period Will We Be Asked To Commit Over & Above Our Regular Giving?
Commitment Sunday is May 2. This will be the time when most people will make their Estimate of Giving. The opportunity to submit your family’s commitment is available through May 23 when our results are announced. The commitment is intended to be fulfilled within three years from this date. No one will confront you or pressure you into a commitment. Your giving is between you and God and should come about as a result of much prayer. If each family approaches Blueprint prayerfully, the result will be a rewarding and exciting time of spiritual growth as a church.

Should We Wait Until The Old Building Is Sold?
When we sell our old building, the kindergarten could be forced to move. We have the opportunity now to partner with the kindergarten to raise the required funds. This building will help us meet immediate needs for both the kindergarten and for Otter Creek Church. As time goes by, building codes change. We experienced this at our old building. This new facility will maximize our footprint at 409 Franklin Road.

Should We Be Spending Money On Ourselves?
Bigger is not always better, but this building will increase our ability to reach in and reach out through our ministries. We aren’t building this facility so we can continue to grow; we are building so we can handle the growth we’ve already experienced and support our current and future ministries. We are investing in the most significant ministry of Otter Creek that will influence its future through the next generation–-its children and youth.

How Is Blueprint Different From Lighting The Path?
Under the direction of Kelley Beaman, the Otter Creek Kindergarten has been engaged in its own efforts to help fund this endeavor. Their project is called Lighting the Path and has been underway for almost one year. They have been raising money through the current and former students and parents of Otter Creek Kindergarten and are well on their way to their goal of $2.5 million.

Will My Contribution To Grow One Step Help Build This New Building?
Grow One Step is your family’s affirmation to increase your regular/weekly contribution and support the day-to-day operations and ministries of this church. Your Grow One Step commitment is completely separate from this building project. The contribution your family has planned going forward with your Grow One Step commitment will help support the ministries that occur in this building once it has been built.

How Does This Building Impact Our Overall Financial Situation?
Blueprint does not affect our current ministry budget in any way. It is separate and apart from the regular operating budget. According to our banking partners, Otter Creek is in good financial condition. We do not plan to increase our existing long-term debt. We plan to build the new facility from Blueprint contributions and pledges with no additional debt incurred by Otter Creek. Compared to the other options we considered four years ago, Otter Creek will have outstanding facilities with a fraction of the debt.

What If We Raise More Or Less Than Our Desired Goal?
If we raise more than our desired goal, we will put the extra money toward finishing out the second and third floors of the new building. If we raise less than our desired goal, we will have to look at modifying our building plans.

What Is Our Commitment To The Kindergarten?
The Otter Creek Elders oversee the kindergarten as an outreach ministry of our church. The Elders made a commitment when we moved to our current location that the kindergarten would move as well. This ministry will celebrate its 50th anniversary next school year. Our goal is to break ground in the fall of 2010 and to begin using the first floor in the fall of 2011.
